Diseases of the Liver
The liver has many functions. Some of the functions are: to produce substances that break down fats, convert glucose to glycogen, produce urea (the main substance of urine), make certain amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), filter harmful substances from the blood (such as alcohol), storage of vitamins and minerals (vitamins A, D, K and B12) and maintain a proper level or glucose in the blood. The liver is also responsible for producing cholesterol. It produces about 80% of the cholesterol in your body.
Several diseases states can affect the liver. Some of the diseases are Wilson's Disease, hepatitis (an inflammation of the liver), liver cancer, and cirrhosis (a chronic inflammation that progresses ultimately to organ failure). Alcohol alters the metabolism of the liver, which can have overall detrimental effects if alcohol is taken over long periods of time. Hemochromatosis can cause liver problems.
Medications that negatively effect the liver
Medications have side effects that may harm your liver. Some of the medications that can damage your liver are: serzone, anti-cancer drugs (tagfur, MTX, and cytoxan), and medications used to treat diabetes.
What are Liver Diseases?
Liver diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis change the way the body uses nutrients from food. Nutrients include carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. Some people with liver disease may not get enough nutrients and lose weight because of these changes.
Sometimes liver cells get damaged from toxins or alcohol, in which case repair action is needed.
Silymarin is well known for hepato-protective and detoxifying effect.
Provita Nutrition LIVER
Hepato-Protect contains the maximum possible therapeutic dose of 5000 mg of powdered extract of thistle (Sylibum marianum).
The Globe Artichoke (Cynara cardunculus) is one of the most efficient detoxification and regeneration agents for both liver cells and gallbladder. It also stabilizes liver cell membrane and ensures production and bile flow.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is known to have a beneficial effect on the gallbladder.
Alpha-lipoic acid + L-Glutathione (reduced) + Selenium is a synergistic combination that provides effective detoxification of liver cells (Selenomethionine Selenium is the most appropriate form for the liver)
Curcuma Longa is a powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic recommended in all liver disease while Foeniculum vulgare eliminates accumulated toxins and fat in the liver (steatosis = fatty liver)

Fatty liver fatigue, liver poisoning, liver failure, steatosis, alcoholism, chronic hepatitis (including extreme) related to viral etiology, toxic hepatitis (especially alcohol), compensated cirrhosis, liver failure, prophylaxis, during the administration of potentially hepatotoxic substances including antibiotics.
Mandatory: whenever antibiotics are administered
Prophylactic: during the administration of potentially hepatotoxic substances, allopathic medicine and alcoholism.
